MITIS administrators, teachers, and students formed the biggest group of welcomers on the arrival last September 23 of two Korean navy vessels, the Yang Man Chun and Hwa Cheon, for a four-day goodwill visit as part of the celebrations of the 60th anniversary of the Korean war.

The MITIS welcomers were joined by Mr. Lee Hye Min, the Korean Ambassador to the Philipines and Mr. Jang Jae Jung, the president of the Philippine Giver’s Fund. The welcomers were treated to a tour of the ships by navy academy students and were given booklets about Korea. The students who come from 16 different nationalities were also given the opportunity to savor the taste of Korean delicacies.
The next day, September 24, MITIS administrators and some parents attended the special dinner with the presence of former President Fidel V. Ramos, the present Secretary of National Defense Voltaire Gazmin, former Prime Minister of Korea Lee Hong Gu, and Admiral Lee Byung Kwon. The dinner was in commemoration of the participation in the Korean war of the Philippine Expeditionary Force to Korea or PEFTOK which included a young soldier fresh from West Point named Fidel V. Ramos who emerged as one of the heroes of the war. Gen Ramos would later be the 12th president of the Philippines in 1992-1998. Other Filipino veterans of the Korean war were also honored during the dinner.

MITIS was honored as the only school invited to both welcome ceremony and special dinner. Mr. Hyock Chu Kwon, MITIS Founder- Director, was awarded a special plaque by Admiral Lee Byung Kwon.
