Let’s go MITIS! Thus will be the battle cry of numerous MITIS students as they test their wills and self-discipline in the upcoming MITIS Sports Festival 2012 with the theme, “Bringing Out the Best in Each Other” to be held in the Sports Complex of Starmall, Alabang on January 26-27, 2011.

MIT International School holds a sports fest every school year with the aim of providing students a venue to explore their talents in sports and to foster camaraderie among members from different levels. This involves the whole school community wherein both students and staff members are mixed in different teams corresponding to the colors of MIT namely Maroon, Blue, Orange and Gray.

What makes this year’s sports festival different is the fact that the theme deepens the involvement of students beyond friendship and camaraderie. Teachers now aim to guide the members of each team to link arms in not only excelling individually but to also help their friends come out of their shell.

"It’s been great to see the older students step up and take the reins," Ms. Lei Pangilinan, a member of the gray team has said. "They’ve been practicing hard and teaching the young ones to do the yells and cheers without our assistance."

Teams will be duking it out in different sports – both individual and team sports. Points for each competition will be added together and an over-all winner will be declared by the end of the 2-day event. It’s a good learning experience for the students who also consider sports as a medium for character development.

In the end, the teams may be divided by colors but together, these colors shine bright to build the colors of the school seal. It’s no wonder that the excitement for the upcoming sports fest has been building as the day of the event arrives. No one student or team stands alone in this endeavor. The sports festival is a concerted effort aimed to lift everyone together as they soar to greater heights for the new year.
