Seven student leaders of MIT International School joined the 23rd Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) National Assembly of High School Students held at Teacher’s Camp, Baguio City last November 29 to December 2, 2011, They were Monica Felizardo, Bona Mae Simba, Jeanie Hyung, Jay Angelo Jumagdao, Jose Martin Revita, Rico Ireneo and Rimmer Dong. With them was the Student Activity Coordinator, Ms. Lei Pangilinan. The annual YMCA project which aims to enhance the youth’s sense of responsibility and awareness is in adherence to the theme, “YMCA: Developing the Youth as Responsible Global Citizens”.
The assembly offered the more than 600 participants varied activities which included leadership seminars, workshops, and forums. The MITIS delegates joined the different commissions which enabled them to interact with students from the public and private schools from the different regions of the country. The commissions deliberated on and offered solutions about the current issues in the Philippines.
MITIS student Bona Mae Simba was elected Chairman of Commission 9.
The students also participated in various events such as contests and cultural presentations which showcased each student’s talents and creativity. For the much-awaited event, Lakan and Lakambini 2011, Rimmer Dong joined the contest and successfully got 4th runner-up award. He became the Crowd Favorite of the Night.
But more than the prizes and awards they garnered, the MITIS students were thankful for the opportunities to hone their leadership and social skills and for the many friends they gained.
The YMCA is an international organization. It educates for personal discipline and civic consciousness and provides the venue for the youth to attain personal growth and development.
