April 2009: Focus on STRIPES and ESLRs

“Love and respect your parents; love and respect your teachers.”
“Show respect to self and to one another.”
“Seek the truth; do not lie.”
“Set and follow your dreams.”

These have been the recurrent themes of messages given by Mr. Hyock Chu Kwon and Dr. Bienvenido V. Santos during the weekly assembly of students. The themes are elaborations of STRIPES, the acronym for the school’ core values of solidarity, truth, respect, integrity, perseverance, excellence, and service.

14 March 2009: Parenting Seminar a Big Success

On March 14, the association successfully sponsored a seminar entitled “The 21st Century Parent”. The speaker was Ms. Libertine Kho Lee who has an extensive background in psychotherapy for individual clients, family counseling, and psychoeducation for groups.

9-14 March 2009: MITIS Community Celebrates Founder’s Week

The MITIS community celebrated Founder’s Week with a string of activities, which included a festival of Shakespearean plays and a quiz bee during the week of March 9-14, 2009. Teachers employed classroom-based activities to focus on the school’s vision and expected school-wide learning results (ESLRs).

13 March 2009: Students Showcase - Spelling Bee and Shakespeare

Two activities were conducted on March 13, 2009, the Spelling Bee with contestants from Grades 4 to 6 and the Festival of Shakespearean Plays participated in by Grades 7-10 students.

The winners of the Spelling Bee were Shaun Sebastion Yco, Grade 5, (Champion), Andre Barbarona, Grade 5, (1st runner up), and Amy Kwon, Grade 4, (2nd runner up).

The two activities sponsored by the English Department headed by Ms. Nicole Concepcion and were part of the celebration of Founder’s Week.

11 February 2009: MITIS PA Officers Take Oath

The officers of the MITIS Parents Association led by its President, Mr. Raymond Reboredo, were inducted to office in a general assembly of parents and guardians on February 11, 2009. The inducting officer was MITIS Founder-Director, Mr. Hyock Chu Kwon, who presented to Mr. Reboredo a check for PhP30,000 for the association’s initial operations.

17 December 2008: Students Showcase - Piano Recital

The Piano Recital was held on December 17, 2008 and was participated by 30 piano students. The students are under the tutorship of Dr. Sung Won Lee who holds a PhD degree in Piano Performance (Concerto Examen) from Folkwang, Germany.

The Talent Explosion was held on October 30, 2008 for students to showcase their prowess in dancing, band playing, choral recitations, and play acting. The affair was primarily planned by student leaders with the full support of all classes.

March 2008: Two Steinway Grand Pianos Boost MITIS Music & Arts Program

Two Steinway grand pianos from Germany arrived recently to boost the school's music and arts program. These technically advanced pianos provide"the fullest spectrum of sound and palette of tonal color" and are "capable of not only large sonorities,but also the softest and most intimate whisperings," asquoted by the Principal, Dr. Bienvenido V. Santos.

February 2008: MITIS Celebrates "Respect and Care for Life" Month

The MIT International School (MITIS) has declared February as "Respect and Care for Life" month with a string of relevant activities. The celebrations focus on an expanded theme, "Respect and Care for the Community of Life with Understanding, Compassion, and Love", which is drawn from the preamble and principle of the Earth Charter.

18 January 2008: MITIS STUDENT EARN MTAP HONORS

Grade 5 students Zymar Z. Timtim, Timothy J. Aurin and Renzo Miguel M. Ibañez, and Grade 6 students Rico N. Ireneo and Bona Mae R. Simba earned honors for MIT International School in the division level of the mathematics competitions sponsored by the Mathematics Teachers Associations of the Philippines (MTAP).
