For the New Year 2012
The new year challenges us to grow and glow more and more in actualizing our slogan of “living well with others.” The challenge is that our drive for excellence and achievement be complemented by our efforts to be persons with and for others.
Our response to the challenge, I believe, should be a continuing affirmation that “those who are happiest are those who do the most for others” and that “living well with others” is at the core of internationalism in education.
Our lively response requires that we consciously and persistently cultivate a character of patience, humility, and gentleness. It is a steadfast response that comes from our personal and communal commitment to be guided at all times by our STRIPES and ESLRs. Let us, then, resolve to make our lives much better by demonstrating the following behavioral indicators as a matter of habit:
1. Exercise prudence, good judgment, and self-control
in interpersonal relationships;
2. Show wholesome, clean, and refined habits of speech and
action;
3. Exercise thoughtful care, patience, and understanding in
responding to the needs, feelings, and limitations of others;
4. Respect others and believe that people of different cultures,
abilities, religions, genders, and races are equally valuable
members of our society.
5. Fulfill your obligations and promises promptly and faithfully;
6. Prioritize time effectively to meet the needs of the institution,
family, and self.
7. Keep a positive and optimistic outlook in spite of difficulties.
With our faithfulness to our STRIPES and ESLRs and together with other men and
women of peace and goodwill, we shall relentlessly work for a world where there are no bullies, no aggressors, and no exploiters of any kind. And we shall always be happy with the thought that in doing so we assert our school’s identity and mission, for the Latin word mitis in English means mild, gentle, mature.
