DeMITISfied: What Makes a MITIS Teacher

Although a little late from the rest of the world, the MITIS community did not forget to honor its amazing set of educators in the recently-concluded MITIS Teacher’s Day celebration through several activities sponsored by the Student Coordinating Board (SCB).

As part of the celebration, the SCB launched “Bet on Your Baby,” a section in the school where the teacher’s baby pictures were posted and students had the opportunity to not only guess who these babies were but to also vote and place bets on who they think the cutest baby was. From the pool of twelve baby photos, Ms. Anna Medina emerged to be the cutest of them all, winning special prizes from the student body. Aside from this, students also had the power to guess who is who in the selection of photos. In the end, Annika Lavilla of Grade 6 was given The Best Bet award, scoring 12/12 in the guessing sheet given, which means that she was able to unlock the identities of all those in the baby photos.

Last Thursday, October 12, came one half of the surprise prepared by the SCB. The faculty and staff came to school in their pajamas and sleepwear to celebrate “Rockabye, Baby!: Sing. Sleep. Shine.”  Here, teachers were given the time to just chill and bond with each other over some snacks, movies, and karaoke.

On Friday the 13th came the culminating activity of the celebration. Dubbed as “DeMITISfied,” this program aimed to allow the students to have a peek on what is behind the teacher’s smiles and what is inside their hearts. Through different games such as “Getting to Know You,” “Compatibility Test,” “How Well Do You Know Your Friend?,” and “Never Have I Ever,” the students got to know their teachers beyond the classroom, realizing that even the most serious ones carry a lighthearted personality with them. The program started and ended with students’ showcase of talents, thanks to the cute members of Grades 4 and 5 and the charismatic MITIS Boyband. A community lunch followed, as sponsored by the ever generous Parents and Guardians’ Coordinating Board (PGCB).

This venture by the SCB, for their very first major event, to deviate from the tradition has been a successful one. Again, happy teacher’s day, MITIS teachers!
